What to Do When You Suspect a Water Leak

Step one: stop the water

Find your main shut-off valve and close it if water is visibly running or pooling. Every minute of flow adds to the drying and repair bill.

Step two: document everything

Take photos and short videos of the water, the damage, and your water meter. Insurance adjusters ask for this, and it is much harder to capture after cleanup.

Step three: check the meter

With every fixture off, note the meter reading, wait fifteen minutes, and read it again. A change confirms an active leak on your side of the meter.

Step four: call a leak specialist, not a guesser

What to have ready

Your address, the symptoms you noticed, when they started, and whether the meter is still moving. That is usually enough for us to tell you the next step over the phone.
